It’s official, I have a blog and I know how to use it.

I have finally decided to take the plunge and add a blog to my site. I always wanted an easy way to share information with visitors and I’m super excited to start this journey. Keep coming back to my site and check for updates right here on the blog.

Does your vehicle ever have this light on? It's the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Indicator Light. Each one of your four tires, year 2008 and newer,  have these sensors built in to the back side of the valve stem. Some vehicles prior to 2008 may have them installed too!

In 2004 President Clinton signed the first version of the American TREAD Actwhich required Tire Pressure Warning Systems to be implemented on 2004 and newer vehicles. Of course that did not seal the deal. In 2005 the final ruling was made after changing some language in the original ruling. By 2008  the ruling and NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, made certain that 100% of vehicles manufactured and imported to the states be fitted with TPMS.

So what does (!) mean?! Well, it could be several things... 1) Is it cold outside? If so, you may have to DO NOTHING. We see a lot of (!) in the winter. When it is cold outside, the air in your tires gets cold too. Cold air takes up less volume than warm air does. So, once you are on the road, driving, things warm up. Once the air in tires warm up, the TPMS indicator light SHOULD go off. If for some reason it doesn't, for an extended period of time, you need to see your mechanic to determine the problem.

Possible problems could be a dead, non-serviceable battery. Also, damage can occur with mounting and balancing of new tires.

The bottom line is that the (!) is a very important little light. It can indicate improper tire pressure. Low or high tire pressure not only wears your tires irregularly, causing an early demise, it can also be dangerous.

Come see the experts when your (!) TPMS Indicator is illuminated for too (more than warm up) long....

I am surprised there are so many people coming to our shop for an oil change and are in need of air filter replacement, and do not understand the importance of the filter replacement. Let me explain and advise.

Every internal combustion engine needs a mixture of fuel and air to operate properly. When there is a lack of air (oxygen), the gasoline can’t burn efficiently to provide max energy needed to power the engine. The air that is used by the engine needs to be cleaned before it enters the engine. Dirt and dust can cause poor engine performance. Dirt and dust leave the engine susceptible to debris rubbing the metal parts of the engine causing damage. It costs a lot less to replace a dirty air filter regularly, than it does to replace the parts of the engine it protects.

Engines depend on a detailed air to fuel ratio in order to function correctly. When the engine is deprived of air, the ratio is compromised and that puts more stress on your engine. A clean air filter allows just the right amount of air into our vehicles engine and also traps the dirt that can harm our engines.

Who loves that monthly visit to the car doctor every quarter? Answer: NOBODY! The fact of the matter is that this unexciting task must be completed. As a mom, I know the struggle when it comes to bringing the little one(s) with you. Trust me, I get it. We try our best to make the situation a little less distressing.

I definitely recommend, if you have scheduled maintenance due, schedule an appointment. This allows us to have an “open bay” and technician available for your vehicle at an allotted time.

While you wait, enjoy a fresh, made-to-order coffee with your choice of flavored creamers and sweeteners.

The kids can find all sorts of activities with our Puzzle Book collection stand. They can also color on the dry erase board (kids are obsessed with that thing!) or even clean (also an obsession that they forget about as soon as they leave our waiting area to go home)! They can earn a quarter for cleaning and then use it for a candy out of one of our 4 candy machines. Hard work pays!

My husband, Joe recently installed a changing table. A young woman came to Fletcher Car Care with a child and changed her baby on one of the chairs. Which was totally cool, of course! But, Joe felt so bad that he ordered a changing table the same day and installed immediately upon arrival.
